SHADESPLASH - FOGCLAN DEPUTY
The large, imposing figure of a dark cat stood and flicked his tail on top of a large, gnarled root. The sun was starting to break over the horizon, few rays peeking through the dense forest to illuminate the tom's dark fur. He blinked, yellow eyes disappearing and reappearing in the darkness. He felt dew on his fur, cool and light. He shook it off.
The others in the Clan were asleep at this point. Shadesplash was typically the first one awake, ready to assign patrols that he had prepared in his head the previous night. Today was no different. He liked to mix his warriors and apprentices up so that the Clan would get to know one another. Yes, FogClan cats tended to be more reclusive than many of the other Clans, but it was nice to get to talk to different cats. At least, it was nice for Shadesplash. He stared at the warriors' den, waiting for them to filter out. He shuffled his paws for a couple of seconds before laying down on the large root with a large yawn. The gray sky slowly gave way to blue, puffy clouds. The air was cool. He flicked his ear, the dew clinging to it flying off.

RAVENCHASE Ravenchase was an early riser. It made it easier to get a nice sunning spot.
The young molly silently left the warriors' den. She wasn't trying to sneak around, but she was named for her hunting abilities, after all. Her dull yellow eyes scanned the camp; it seemed the rest of the Clan had yet to wake up. Besides their ever-cheerful deputy, of course, complete with his signature flower.
She didn't understand the appeal in such an accessory--after all, that was something PoppyClan cats liked messing about with, right?--but it was such a minor thing that ultimately, it was easy enough to pay no heed. Every cat has their quirks. Ravenchase closed her eyes, both to blink away any remaining sleep and to scent the air. Hmm. The prey-pile still had a few pieces from yesterday, but nothing fresh. Made sense when no patrols had been sent out yet.
Her brother and Shellpath should be sleeping in today, having been on the evening patrol yesterday. She did not particularly care about having more time to sleep--she was well-rested anyway--but there was a tinge of envy in her heart at the thought that they'd be able to eat something fresher. Oh well.
As she passed the gnarled tree root on the way to sift through the remains of yesterday's prey, she offered a quiet but polite "good morning" to the deputy sitting atop.

SHADESPLASH - FOGCLAN DEPUTY
Shadesplash's ears immediately perked up at the sound of his Clanmate. He'd seen her coming, sure, but never really processed her coming over until she was right in front of him. Was it that he was lost in thought about what he'd be doing later that day, or did she blend in that well with her surroundings? His tail flicked back and forth as he lounged upon that gnarled root.
"Hello, Ravenchase!" exclaimed the large tom. He remained laying where he was, but his eyes met Ravenchase's before quickly darting away. Eye contact was not something that he was particularly good at, but he frequently still gave it a shot. A little bit of light filtered through onto his flower, illuminating it in the darkness. He loved this little flower as he had loved every flower that he had worn on his head. He knew it made him stand out even further than he already did among FogClan cats, but he didn't mind it. It was his little way of expressing himself.

RAVENCHASE The deputy could not meet her eyes, but it was not a problem. Ravenchase would soon be preoccupied by the daunting choice of which day-old piece of prey she'd like to eat (or rather, which one she would dislike the least). Idle conversation was not a skill she cared to hone. Still, not wanting to seem rude, especially to her elder cousin, she hummed in response before grabbing a skinny squirrel.
She passed by the gnarled root again, this time with her breakfast in tow, and settled a couple of fox-lengths away from where Shadesplash was lounging. It was still grey out, but the sun tended to shine earlier and longer in this spot than others. Claiming this spot early would not harm anybody.
The rest of the Clan still seemed to be slumbering; perhaps Ravenchase had woken up earlier than she first thought. She licked her lips after a few bites of her squirrel, wrinkling her nose at the tough meat. It really was a shame she had woken up so early. Then she looked up to the gnarled root and finally spoke again, her eyes squinted in a cordial manner.
"Where will you be sending the hunting patrols today?"

SHADESPLASH - FOGCLAN DEPUTY"I haven't sent anyone to the Twinetail Forest recently. I was actually thinking you and I would go on a hunting patrol there!" The words tumbled out of Shadesplash's mouth as naturally as the tom was able to speak. It almost sounded like he planned out his words, even if the response was immediate. "I would have a few of the others patrol the border, and the apprentices go to Serpent's Run, too."
He was unable to meet his cousin's eyes, but his excitement was palpable. It was clear that the tom enjoyed his deputy duties, even if other cats would consider them tedious. His tail swished from side to side before he hopped off of the gnarled root, joining Ravenchase at the prey pile. He selected a smaller fish and made a face as he started to chew on it, though not one denoting disgust. It was more the face of someone who had taken a bite that was too big into something bony.

RAVENCHASE The face Shadesplash pulled echoed her own feelings about their breakfast... though it seemed he was less bothered about the fact it wasn't as fresh, and more so that there was nothing better than the small bony fish. She scarfed down the rest of the squirrel, wishing it was anything else, then stood and shook out her fur.
"At least we'll have better pickings for lunch," Ravenchase said offhandedly. Small talk indeed was of no concern to her, but she wasn't terrible at it. And while she was content to eat in silence with Shadesplash, they could not sit here forever. With a once-over of the camp and a glance at the remains of her breakfast on the ground, she continued, "FogClan is slow to wake today. Let me bury these bones and I'll be ready to leave when you are."
Ravenchase tilted her head in an effort to hear if any of their Clanmates had begun to stir, but she was only met with the chirps of distant frogsong. She shook her head and, rather than turn to look the deputy in the eye, inclined an ear towards Shadesplash. "If we're quick, we can come back with prey in tow, and you'll still be able to assign patrols for the rest of the day."

SHADESPLASH - FOGCLAN DEPUTYShadesplash's yellow eyes widened at the proposition. He stopped mid-chew, a little bit of fish hanging out of his mouth. Fangs jutted out awkwardly against the half-chewed thing. Before he could think, he began to speak, his words rapidly tumbling over each other. "I-I guess we can?" he asked, suddenly conscious of the fish hanging out of his mouth. He turned away and chewed up the rest of it before he spoke again.
"Am I. Am I allowed to do this, first of all?" he asked. He bat at the prey pile, wanting to take more but willing to let the rest of the Clan eat before he got seconds. "I don't want to get in trouble with Violetstar," he continued, looking back at Ravenchase. His tail flicked back and forth a couple more times, denoting restlessness.
